The main supplement for anyone that enjoys working out is protein powder. Everyone seems to be on the hunt for the latest and greatest protein powder available on the market. We all want a good amount of protein per serving with each scoop, but we also don’t want to have too many calories, carbs, and fat content.
Plus, price is always an issue. We don’t want to spend so much money on protein powder every month that we can’t make our next car payment. Here is a popular protein powder that I have used before in the past that is available in most stores and online.

But when deciding which protein powder you are going to add to your daily routine, you must examine the back of the label closely. The front of the label is always the selling point, but the back of the product is where you find the truth.
Amount of Protein Per Serving
The amount of protein you are receiving each serving depends on if you are going to use one scoop or two. The front of the product says it provides 60 grams of protein per serving, but that is only if you are going to take two scoops every time.
If you only take one scoop of Body Fortress Whey Protein each time, then you are getting 30 grams of protein per serving and there will be enough in the container to provide you about 45 protein shakes. If you are taking two scoops for 60 grams of protein, you are only going to be getting about 22 shakes per container.
Plus, keep in mind what you are going to be mixing the protein powder with. There are those people that enjoy mixing it with just water. I have never been one of those people. I go with skim milk every time I mix up a protein shake as it is quite low in calories.
Both whole milk and skim milk contain about eight grams of protein per cup. I use about two cups of milk to mix with my protein powder, so if I am only going with one scoop of Body Fortress Whey Protein, I am still getting about 46 grams of protein per shake when you combine in the protein from the milk, too.
Body Fortress Whey Protein Ingredients
The ingredients in Body Fortress Whey Protein are;
- Super Whey Protein Blend – a propriotiey blend of whey protein concentrate and isolate.
- Maltodextrin – a sugar that comes from corn, rice, or wheat. Its glycemic index (GI) it a little high, which can result in blood sugar spikes. This is completely safe, but diabetes should be a little careful.
- Soy Lecithin – a food additive that is used to increase mixability.
- Cellulose Gum – a thickening agent found in many food products.
- Acesulfame Potassium – an artificial sweetener that is a great alternative to sugar.
- Sucralose – is a zero-calorie artificial sweetener.
Types of Protein Found in Body Fortress Whey Protein
There are two types of protein found in this protein powder. While there is a little whey isolate in the powder, it is mostly whey concentrate. Whey concentrate is cheaper for manufacturing purposes, but it is also higher in calories, carbs, lactose, and fat.
Isolate is viewed as superior across the board. There is a higher protein content with whey isolate and whey isolate gets absorbed into the system much better as well. However, you get what you pay for and if you want to stay on budget, whey concentrate powders should be just fine for most people.
The Body Fortress Whey Protein powder should be viewed as pretty high on the calorie side. Two scoops will provide you 430 calories. This is fine if you are looking to pack on some pounds, but if you are looking to get lean, there are other protein powders out there that contain almost half the amount of calories.
Once again, the amount of fat contained in two scoops is on the high side. In fact, it will provide you about 15 percent of your estimated daily fat value (an estimated 10 grams). Half of that comes from the dreaded saturated fat. There are good fats and there are bad fats. Saturated fat is definitely on the bad side as it can raise your cholesterol and make you more susceptible to heart disease.
Speaking of cholesterol, if you decide to go with two scoops of Body Fortress Whey Protein, you are getting 82 percent of your daily value of cholesterol. There are both good and bad types of cholesterol, but if you are getting a good chunk of it from saturated fats, then you have to be aware.
You can have the healthiest protein powder available in the world in your cabinet at this exact moment, but if it does not taste good, you aren’t going to have it often enough for it to make a bit of difference. (I have had hemp and pea protein powder sitting in my closet for two years now because the taste is just beyond what I can take.) Body Fortress makes enough flavors so that you are bound to enjoy at least a couple of them. Plus, there is an added bonus to all of those extra calories and fat. This protein powder actually tastes good.
I wouldn’t count on mixing this powder up with a spoon. I would purchase a really good shaker and tumble it around like you are Tom Cruise in Cocktail. If you want to ensure that the powder is mixed as smooth as possible, pull out the blender and go to town.
The Bonus Ingredients
In every protein powder, there are going to be additional healthy ingredients found in it. Sometimes the extras can blow you away as they add value to what you are purchasing. However, the bonus ingredients found in Body Fortress Whey Protein are on the average side.
Creatine: There are about 1.5 grams of creatine found in this protein powder. A normal serving of creatine is closer to 5 grams. Some people swear by creatine and others avoid it. It all depends on what you prefer.
Taurine: Just like creatine, there are 1.5 grams of taurine contained in every scoop. And just like creatine, you can get all the taurine you need from your diet. It is an amino acid that contributes to the body’s metabolic process. The amount found in this powder is adequate as many people usually take somewhere between one and two grams of it daily.
L-Glutamine: Glutamine is another amino acid that most can receive in their diet. It helps with digestion and as many people have trouble with digesting protein shakes, this could come in handy. There are 1.5 grams of glutamine found in every scoop.
Body Fortress Whey Protein is a relatively inexpensive protein powder. It does have that going for it. Plus, if you are only doing one scoop per day, you are still receiving 30 grams of protein and you don’t have to worry so much about the calories or fat. It is when you start taking it more than once a day that you need to look closer at the numbers.
For those that do not have any digestive issues and are not picky about whey concentrate or whey isolate, Body Fortress should be perfectly fine for you to take on a daily basis. The taste is good and it is easy to see having a shake in place of a meal every now and then.
If you are like me and find yourself being a bit of a connoisseur of protein powders, then here is what I like to do. Have about four to five different brands of protein powders in your cabinet and switch it up when your preference starts to change. I get tired of having the same shake day after day, so having a variety to choose from will keep your taste buds from getting stale.
And you can feel good that Body Fortress is one of the ones to pick from since it will not be super expensive and will still provide you the basics.
